- (about the single-digit temperatures while filming The Covenant) That was one of the hardest things to deal with because it was very, very cold. Basically we would shoot the scene, and instantly when we heard ‘Cut’ everybody would run towards us with blankets and throw them on us.
- Theater feels more organic, there’s no stop and go. Film is a whole different animal.
- (on working with director Jonathan Demme) The overall experience was incredible. It was really spontaneous, and he gave us so much freedom to work off of each other and discover things in the moment.
- (about working with Ashton Kutcher on Spread) When I worked with Ashton, what I really admired about him was that he had a solid idea about every frame. He knew what to do based on the position of the camera and the lighting, and you have to be aware of all those things when you do film. That’s the challenge.
- (on prepping for his role on Kings) I did research on Prince Harry and the pressures of growing up under the media eye, under that camera which is this crazy, metallic, alien thing.
- (about actors who inspired him) I have a bit of an obsession with the 1950’s and all those actors from Montgomery Clift to James Dean and Anthony Perkins. Just that whole era of Tennessee Williams to Elia Kazan. The whole idea of New York and the whole thing becomes kind of romantic in your head.
- (on the edgy roles he’s always playing) I just gravitate towards flawed, conflicted, troubled people.
- (about the TV show Kings) I’m really happy to be a part of something that’s thought-provoking and inspiring. Hopefully people will think about that. We have plenty of things that we should be aware of, that are going on now, especially for my generation.
- (on his role as Prince Jack on Kings) Is it really a big deal for a network to have a gay character anymore? The question is whether or not Jack can be an influential political figure by being who he is.
- (on his move from Europe to Rockland County, NY at the age of 12) When you’re thrown into something so young, you don’t think about it too much. I was an only child, so it took me a while to form friends because my stepdad was the headmaster, and I had an accent for a while, but it was still early and you just sort of suck in everything at that age.
- To be honest, as this world goes, is to be one man picked out of ten thousand.
